One of the key problems in Mexico's fight against drug-related violence has been combating police corruption. As rich and powerful drug trafficking organizations expand their illegal operations to include car theft, prostitution and human trafficking, they are paying many Mexican police officers at the local, state and federal levels to turn the other way. The government of northeastern Nuevo Leon state says it's remaking the state police agency, ridding it once and for all of corruption.
